Butterfly and Pig Burger

Brilliant burgers at The Butterfly and The Pig on Bath Street... you can have them loaded with Dunlop cheddar, Brie or Cashel Blue...rather lovely homemade burgers, with decent skin-on chips and creamy mayo. I had (of course) the Cashel Blue burger and it was the best I've ever eaten!

Pollokshields!

I'm househunting in Pollokshields at the moment, and so last weekend I took Mr Gastro out for a brunch at Shields perennial, Moyra Janes. Mr Gastro had his all-time favourite, waffles with bacon and maple syrup (born on the wrong continent I think!) and I had mine, eggs benedict. Funny how for two people who love food so much, some of our favourite meals are really breakfasts. It truly is the meal of kings.

We did a bit of food shopping there too, at the Zucchini grocers and the Mise en Place deli. The grocers was brimming with shiny, fresh vegetables and reminded me of the big Roots and Fruits on Great Western Road! We bought oatcakes and cheeses from the deli for a late-night snack, to be consumed along with West Wing episodes, and followed by wonderfully hallucinogenic dreams....

Malaysian Pancakes At Asia Style

Asia Style!

Even after my wonderful lunch at An Lochan, I managed to squeeze in a bite at Asia Style, near Charing Cross. I had arranged to meet Mr G late there on Saturday as we were going out for a heavy night at the Liquid Ship on Great Western Road. I'd heard that this was the best Chinese restaurant in Glasgow. Now I know it is. They specialise in Malay and Chinese food, which gives it a unique flavour, unlike anything I've tasted before. We ate Malaysian pancakes which were delicious. Fried, and served with a bowl of oily, hot curry sauce, they disappeared rather quickly - washed down with cups of green tea. Mr G then had pork belly and duck rice, which looked and smelt wonderful. I chose ginger duck with noodles. Although it was absolutely lovely, I couldn't even finish half of it, so I asked them to box it up... Will definitely be back when I have an empty stomach!
The restaurant itself is full of chatter and has no airs or graces - but trust me, the food is something else. Pictures to follow!

An Lochan Scallops!

I'm afraid that,as you can see, I had started eating before I remembered to take the picture. Gluttony, pure and simple!

An Lochan

Spent the afternoon having a lovely lunch with Mama Gastro at An Lochan on the Crow Road. I had a HUGE plate of langoustines with lemon mayo, followed by the absolutely amazing scallops wrapped in bacon with black pudding. Regular readers will know my scallop fetish and these were so big and juicy I can hardly describe them! We finished with a Scottish cheese platter - a nice touch is that they have a cheese menu, where you select your choices for your plate. We feasted on Aiket, Ayrshire Bonnet goats' cheese, Lanark Blue, Smoked Mull Brie and Smoked Applewood Cheddar, which came with apple, celery, chutney and gorgeous homemade oatcakes, beautifully presented on a slate tile. Just wonderful. Going straight in my top ten, which badly needs an update! I may even have to start doing top fives in different categories...

There has been a bit of a gap in my posts - I'm now all set up with LifeCast on my iPhone so I can blog on the go! Hopefully this means more snappy restaurant reviews.
